"You don't have to have great wealth to have a great plan." |
Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie established the Liberty Foundation for her daughter Emma Fulkerson. Emma will be the donor advisor and recommend grants to community nonprofit organizations from the fund. Sheila plans to contribute annually to the fund. She believes that, in a few years they will have built up enough money to make regular well-placed grants.
In effect, The Liberty Foundation has become a charitable savings account. “A donor advised fund works well to focus our family giving. You don’t have to have great wealth to have a great giving plan. It is important to me to encourage Emma to follow and develop her charitable interests and to help her learn about giving. I will be there for her to bounce ideas off of and to help her plan effective grants. Through this fund we can nurture our values – that giving back is part of a meaningful life.”
