What is the High School Giving Circle?

A group of 12 high schools students from throughout Washoe County form the Youth in Philanthropy High School Giving Circle (HSGC) advisory committee. As a member of the HSGC committee, you and your peers will learn about charities in your community and then decide to which you will give all or a portion of $10,000.

What do I have to do?

Be part of a team of other HSGC committee members.

Talk about community issues that interest you.

Give away $10,000 to charities that serve arts, culture, environment,
human service - whatever you are passionate about.

What does it cost?

Nothing. This program is paid for by a fund holder at the Community Foundation. All it costs is your time.

How much time will it take?

75 minutes once a week for 10 weeks—from September 23 to December 9. All meetings are held on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:45 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. (No meetings on September 30 or November 25.)

Where will we meet?

Meetings are at the Community Foundation of Western Nevada: 1885 South Arlington Ave., Suite 103, Reno. You’ll need to provide your own transportation.

What’s in it for me?

         A chance to be heard!

A way to make a difference on issues YOU care about.

A great community service experience for your resume.         An understanding of why philanthropy is important.

How do I join?
